Broken and Rejected? Rejoice! God Will Use You

Published on

“Men throw away broken things, but GOD never uses anything until HE first breaks it.”

Not my quote, but this is so true! Everyone in the bible who GOD used, was highly imperfect in some way. Rahab was a prostitute, but was chosen by GOD to hide two spies that were sent by Joshua to scout out the promised land. Being a sex worker, she clearly would not have been valued as a person, but God clearly did value her, because she and her entire household were spared from death when Israel invaded Jericho.

And what about David, who was so overlooked that even his own father refused to pick him as a suitable candidate, when Samuel came to David’s household, looking for a king. And when Samuel saw Eliab, who was David’s brother, he became sure that Eliab would become the LORD’S anointed. But the Lord spoke to Samuel and said this, “Do not consider his appearance or height, for I have rejected him; the LORD does not see as man does. For man sees the outward appearance, but the LORD sees the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7

God chose David because as scripture tells us in 1 Samuel 13:14, "But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people.

Then there was Moses, who had a speech impediment, and I can so relate to Moses, because just like him, I am not eloquent in my way of speaking. I stutter, I stop, I get tongue-tied at times, and this has caused me to be the object of ridicule in the workplace where I am currently employed. As part of my job I have to answer phones, and I can remember when a group of the gossipers and slanderers (some of them even being Christians themselves who seem more like the spawn of satan) sat together in a section right near me and ridiculed me as I was speaking with customers over the phone.

They made fun of my speech, and the way that my tongue would get tied up with certain words. One of them in particular even went so far as to pass by my desk where I was sitting, and she covertly said in a sing-songy voice beneath her breath as she passed me, “I’m a retard”, while she smiled and purposely looked right at me.

She also made fun of me on another occasion by quietly saying to me as she passed by my desk, “Somebody needs grammar lessons!” This woman is no longer at my workplace and I thank GOD that He removed her from out of there, because she was definitely abusive to me in the mental, emotional and spiritual sense.

And so I share that story to say that I know exactly what Moses felt like, and why he is a person in the bible that I really relate to. When commanded by the LORD to speak to the Israelites, Moses replied by saying this, “O my LORD, I am not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” Meaning that he got tongue-tied and his words got tangled as he talked.

But….GOD used him!

Then there was Joseph who was abused, and put into a pit and sold into Egypt by his own brothers. But instead of being vengeful and trying to get back at them, he showed them love once they reunited years later. Genesis 45:14 tells us that: “Then Joseph threw his arms around his brother Benjamin and wept, and Benjamin wept as they embraced. Joseph kissed each of his brothers as he wept over them. And afterward his brothers talked with him.”

Joseph understood that while what his brothers did was cruel and extremely harsh, he realized it had all been a part of God’s master plan to save lives. The scripture that tells us this is Genesis 45:5 which says, Now therefore be not grieved, nor angry with yourselves, that ye sold me hither: for God did send me before you to preserve life.”

This scripture is a great reminder to me that God can even used your enemies AKA haters, to work things in your favor and even to help others as well. How HE does this in each individual situation with each of HIS children is so personal and tailor-made, that we will not know until HE reveals it to us. But I can personally say that the haters in my workplace have caused my prayer life to intensify, and as a result of them oppressing me on the job, I turned to the word of GOD and dug into it like never before.

Without the gossip, ridicule, evil actions and intense hatred they sent my way, I would have probably never reached this point in my spiritual life where fasting, praying and pressing into GOD has become a regular thing for me.

So to all those in my workplace who oppressed me, I have to say thank you for propelling me into a level of spiritual growth that I most likely would not have achieved, if it hadn’t been for you doing all of the wickedness that you did. And as GOD says in Genesis 50:20, “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but GOD meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”

What – a – scripture!

So for those of you who are going through it, rely on GOD and draw strength from HIM, “for in the day of trouble, GOD will hide you in HIS shelter.” Psalm 27:5. And always remember that the angels of the LORD encamp around those who fear him, and HE delivers them.” Psalm 34:7. This is a promise, so you are covered!

Rahab, David, Moses and Joseph are just a few of the examples of God’s redemptive nature, and how our ALMIGHTY FATHER loves to use those who are rejected, broken hearted, thrown-away, and seen as outcasts. I have yet to see HIM use anyone who has it all together. Because the biggest and most powerful testimonies, come from those who have a highly imperfect past.
